Reflections on quotes from Frans Stiene

Summer busyness accompanied by dismantled routines distracts me. It is not easy to consistently follow the meditations I had intended to do. Today I begin again.  I remember not to judge myself but the tendency is there and it takes time to let that go and just accept and love who I am.

Frans Stiene’s latest book “Reiki Insights” (available on amazon .com) gives me some thoughts to remember. The Chapter on page 75 is titled “How  to Stop Being Uncomfortable with Ourselves” .  How true that the Reiki practices are not easy and can “stir up stuff”.  Generally we do not like looking deep within ourselves.  The process tends to be an up and down process for me. When I am uncomfortable with “the stuff” I dig up, I f ind myself slowing down my practice and even ‘accidentally’ forgetting about it.

Frans says “It is like trying to train a wild horse; the wild horse represents our confused mind. It takes a lot of effort and patience to train a wild horse and sometimes we fall off the horse and hurt ourselves. We stir up emotions , things we do not want to look at: fear, worry, anger, you name it. But if we want to help others, then it is of utmost importance that we start to tame our own confused mind first.”

It is when I do not want to look at myself that I tend to blame others, or circumstances, or life for what I see as my failings.  We do that, don’t we?  We blame others and/or ourselves, labelling ourselves and others in the process.  How can we get out of that pattern?  First we have to recognize what we are doing.  Oooooh that is a tough one!  How do we get out of this habit when we really don’t want to admit our shortcomings.

Frans tells us “It means that we start to accept ourselves for who we are with all our pain, discomfort, joy, issues and attachments. We start to become friends with ourselves again…  I call this ‘being naked’ with yourself.  Being naked is about accepting yourself completely, without judging or labeling.  It is letting go of criticizing ourselves.  The precept ‘show compassion to yourself’ is pointing this out.”

This brings to mind the concept of the shadow self. I found reading Debbie Ford’s book “Dark Side of the Light Chasers” meaningful in helping me understand this concept.  Yet “getting it” intellectually does not mean that we are able to make it real for us.  I know in my head that when I see something I react to in another, there is a good chance I need to look at that within myself.  But oh how difficult that can be.  I resist.  And sometimes out of the blue one day, I realize at a deeper level that it is true within me and I need to accept it.  When I finally do that, does it ever change how I view the other.  Little by little, step by step,  I learn more about me and become just a bit more comfortable with myself.

This brings me to a question for you.  In one or two words, can you share with me/us what is the most challenging thing for you to accept about yourself?  Just acknowledging that can be a big step in your process

For me it is the “nastiness”.  You only need to give one word.

I can sometimes speak in a nasty tone with those I love the most.  I do not think of myself as a nasty person. But I am learning to accept that there are circumstances when that nasty side shows its face.  I don’t like it and I deny it but today I realize it is there, showing its face occasionally, but staying hidden from my self awareness.  In accepting it, perhaps it will be less hidden from me.

To end this reflection I quote Frans again: “When we stop labelling and judging ourselves, we reach a state of mind of stillness.”

The Reiki Precepts: Just for Today

Do not be angry
Do not worry
Be grateful
Be true to your way and your being
Show compassion to yourself and other.

Marie

7 Benefits of Learning Reiki

Whether or not you have received a Reiki session, you probably have some preconceived ideas about why a person would want to learn Reiki.  Of course.  But I would like to take this opportunity to expand your awareness.  You may be surprised.

  1. Reiki is a wonderful means of providing self care.  This possibility goes beyond using the hand positions you would learn in a Reiki class.  You see Reiki really responds to your intention.  “Seek and ye shall find” is a perfect invitation.  Reiki energy is always there for everyone but it respects our free will.  Ask and allow it to flow.  A Reiki class speeds up the process for you so that you will more readily open to the flow and feel the effects. Imagine starting your day by centering and inviting the flow of Reiki energy, asking for guidance as you move through the day’s work, challenges and frustrations.
  2. You can use Reiki energy to calm the energy in your home.  Some days are tense.  Perhaps the kids seem out of sorts.  maybe you are having a conflict with your partner.  The area just feels like it is ripe for more.  Allowing Reiki energy to clear your chakras, and calm your field will be a good start.  You can then do the same with your home.  The Reiki energy will spread around and be “catchy” so to speak.
  3. The first two levels of Reiki can be used also with animals.   Do you have animals in your care?  Sheila Murphy, my Reiki Master colleague has been pursuing Animal Reiki.  Sheila will be offering a class (to those with Reiki 11) on how to use Reiki with animals.  In fact if I have two more students in the course, Sheila will be helping me teach it and can give you some starter tips.  It is different working with animals.
  4. Use Reiki to help prepare yourself for an upcoming challenge.  Perhaps you feel anxious about a difficult meeting, a challenging phone call you are expecting or have to make, or something of that nature.  Let yourself be Reiki.  Yes visualization is helpful but your visualization can be even more effective if you first allow Reiki to be flowing within you.
  5. Reiki helps you be ready for what the future may bring. It will help you be more resilient with the major changes occurring in the world today.  The more we practice being  with Reiki, the easier it is to invite its presence in times of confusion and crisis.  It isn’t an easy time we live in.
  6. You may wish to eventually start up a Reiki practice.  Yes some people study Reiki for the purpose of starting up a Reiki practice.  It will take some time to develop your skills enough to begin seeing clients but some people already have a practice where they see clients for similar kinds of concerns.  Talk to me about this possibility.
  7. Personally I would love to see a variety of health care practitioners using Reiki to strengthen  the care they offer.  An Occupational Therapist or Physio Therapist or Chiropractor could learn Reiki and use it to help bring a client to a better state of relaxation in order for their treatment to be more effective more quickly.  Or, I suppose they could work cooperatively with a Reiki practitioner to achieve the same end.  A Psychotherapist could also work collaboratively with a Reiki Practitioner to help the client be better able to gain new insights and perhaps release troubling issues.

I would be happy to explore these benefits with anyone who would like to work with Reiki in these ways.  Consider the Reiki  courses I am offering soon.  Reiki 1 on May 23 and Reiki 11 on May 30th.  The possibilities are endless.  Click here for more details about the classes.   Or email me with your questions at livingreiki@rogers.com.

Strengthen Your 2017 Intentions with Reiki

IMG_0869At this time of year we often feel prompted to review the past in an effort to consider a direction for the future.  Some call it “making resolutions”.  I prefer to use words like direction and intention because it moves me to a place within where I consider how I want to be over the next year.  I think a resolution is often filled with “shoulds” —  something that comes from without in an effort to please or impress others … or the mirror image of myself.  Over the last ten or more years I have given a lot of attention to intentions in workshops, retreats and personal coaching.

Personally there are some very serious things to consider as I examine the direction for 2017.

  1. Unless you are uniquely blessed with a strange genetic aberration, you are likely getting older. Me too.  As we all get older, I find that health becomes a bigger factor in one’s life.  I hear people say things like “I want to be able to enjoy and play with my grandchildren” or “I want to have quality of life as I age.”  Health seems to be high on the list of directions for the coming year.
  2. At the same time, we realize our mortality and this is another factor that kicks in sometime after age 50.  It nudges one to notice the decreasing number of years left and the importance of leaving a legacy.  Depending on how close retirement is, a person begins to think about ‘what next?’. Some people talk about freedom after retirement.  “Freedom to do what?” I have been retired for several years but still look at what is next, how do I want to be in the year ahead?
  3. The last year has challenged us with some surprise and very concerning situations worldwide.  Syria, Brexit, US elections, climate change, the death of several musicians and performers, family conflicts, financial worries, poverty, the murder of so many aboriginal women, and more.  Our world is in need of positive influences from someone somewhere …  from people living ordinary lives just caring and giving attention to what is needed.  Sometimes we need courage to speak up for what we stand for.  One person cannot do everything but when each of us considers one or two things we can do and ways we can be in a loving, courageous and caring way in situations in our lives, we become part of the movement to make the world a better place.  So how can we be different in the year ahead in an effort to help move us all to a better world?

Setting your intentions is much like making affirmations.  While some like to think of them as goals, I like to give them more power by wording them more like affirmations.

Begin each intention with “I am…”.  Here are a few examples:

Yes I want to be healthy so I might say “I am making healthy choices in eating and exercising”  Or  “I am healthy and vibrant”

What do I want to leave behind for others? “I am practicing Reiki on myself and others every week.” ” I am continuing to heal myself in order to be better able to help heal others.” ” I am seeking out more learning opportunities for Reiki.”

“I am inwardly strong and courageously speaking my truth honestly and lovingly.”

Your intentions may be very different from mine.  Some people are looking for peace of mind, a sense of fulfillment, love.  The list goes on.

Reiki can play a role throughout the process.  Ask for guidance in determining your intentions.  Write your intentions on a paper and send Reiki to the intention.   Read you intention every day and send Reiki energy to your intention asking for assistance in bringing it to fruition. Express gratitude knowing that what you ask for is for the highest good of all concerned.  Then trust, and let go of the outcomes.

Want to share some of your intentions with me?  I would be happy to read them and send you a response if you wish.   I am sure they will be heartfelt and honest.  I wish you well.

I can also see you for individual coaching with Reiki sessions to help you move forward with your intentions and help you get unstuck. email me at livingreiki@rogers.com

Happy New Year,

I wish everyone everywhere a year ahead filled with love, peace and much joy.

Reiki Perspective: Jesus was a Master Healer

winter-2016 Winter has arrived!  It is a season marked by several different holiday celebrations.  While the celebration of Christmas has its many different Religious traditions, I would also like to add that the celebration of the birth of Jesus is not necessarily only for the religious.

Whether or not you believe in the divinity of Christ, the Virgin birth, and do forth, there are other things to celebrate.  Jesus was one of the greatest Master Healers and those of us who do healing with Reiki energy or other forms of the highest spiritual energies, also can honour that aspect of Christmas.  We do not know the actual date of Jesus’ birth but we do know that there were astrological signs of the birth of such a person.  Jesus taught us many principles in the way he healed.  For example to my knowledge he did not heal anyone who did not ask to be healed. He told people he healed that they were not to tell others of the healing.  He told us that we could all do the same and more.  And so we learn healing modalities such as Reiki and we learn to help another’s body, mind and spirit to be in the right state of relaxation and allowing to heal itself in a way that is best for all concerned.

In closing, I wish you all a warm and peaceful celebration of the birth of the Master Healer, as well as a year ahead in which you continue to practice care of yourself and others in a way that is best for you and all concerned.  May you be guided by the Highest Power and live life with love in your heart.

Sending you love and light as the days grow longer and the spirit of healing renews your soul.

Reiki Heightens My Bruce Trail Experience

Please turn your tablet or phone sideways for a better view.

img_0754Have you noticed that as soon as you start on a hiking trail, as soon as your feet begin to feel the soft earth beneath them and your eyes spot the colours around you and you smell the freshness of the air, that you feel really good  inside? Your vitality begins to pick up, as your heart beats a little faster, your lungs breathe more fully and all your cells feel the improved nourishment from your enhanced circulation?  Being in nature invites my Reiki connection to strengthen. My energy flows more vibrantly and Reiki energy  heals.

With Reiki activated, walking through the trees helps clear the heaviness I may feel in my emotional body.  Worry, anger, jealousy or other heaviness I may feel in my gut, or heart, or across the shoulders begins to move through me. As the sole of my foot touches the earth, the earth draws the feelings out and relieves me of these anxieties.  Energy from the highest power guides the flow.

My brain begins to clear as I breathe in the freshness of the seasons.  My mind gradually lets go of the troubling thoughts that were not solving anything and allows a clarity of “what is important anyways” to rise within. For me, hiking in the woods can be like a Reiki session.

I feel awe. Some places seem to have a richness in sensual experiences. I am grateful and connected to life.  I feel uplifted, inspired, and any emptiness begins to feel replenished. Reiki offers me this higher consciousness way of experiencing nature more fully.  This is why I love Reiki and why I love the Bruce Trail.

Love, Inclusiveness and Helping Others

“To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

mariePerhaps it is fitting that this week ends with November 11.  A week that may be looked back on as historical for whatever reason.  A week that reminds us of the divisiveness existing in the world, not just in the USA and other free nations like Britain.  But is it possible that what we have seen in these great nations is democracy’s version of what “Arab Spring” was about in Egypt and the middle East? Is this a time when we need reflect on our soulful values, our “purpose under heaven” and live those values more openly and fully.  Today is a day when we reflect on the lives lost in war.  May war and violence not be the answer to the diverse values that seem to exist.  May we find the commonality in those values and build on them for world peace.

“To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

On Wednesday I was grateful that it was the last day of the Usui/Holy Fire 11 Reiki Master course I had the privilege of facilitating.  The program experiences that connected us more fully with Divine energy guided us to a place of constructive thinking rather than negative resentful thinking. It was a blessing.

Today the music of Leonard Cohen shares his sadness with us and brings me to a place of realizing how we need to acknowledge our sadness and our disappointment.  For me it gives me, in gradually growing stages, the inner strength to use the feelings of loss of something I had hoped for.  I invite you to join me in resolving to identify our values for love, inclusiveness, and helping others.  I invite you in what ever way serves you best to courageously bring those values into your daily life at home and at work, in relationships and in parenting.

For me I find Reiki to be a valuable means of receiving guidance in difficult times. But Reiki is not the only way.  May you find peace and a constructive message to move forward with love and peaceful action.  May we all communicate our truth lovingly and honestly.  Peace be with us all.

Today’s Reiki Intentions

Today, I am protected from the influence of negative energies I may encounter.

I am surrounded by white light, filled with a love that is pure, unconditional, non-judgmental and compassionate.

The love energy that surrounds me moves easily within me and is shared freely with those I encounter, simply healing and spreading love without expectations of results or anything in return.

So it is and I am grateful.

Reiki: a means for self development

Reiki for wholeness and growth

Having taught several Reiki classes, I have noticed that people begin by promoting their own wholeness and growth. Their personal care and growth in wisdom and becoming more conscious is important.  Starting a Reiki practice may or may not be a later step.

Once a person learns Reiki, its uses are unlimited. That is why I chose to call my web site ‘Living Reiki’. You see it can become a part of your living day-to-day, helping you feel calm, grounded, more connected to your sense of higher power, more safe and ready to face life’s challenges.  It helps raise your own vibrational level which then helps raise the vibrational level of the planet.

I love teaching Reiki. I thoroughly enjoy seeing people feel the energy come through them. The more they practice, the more open they become to the energy and its benefits.  Given the benefits, why not click on this link to read a more detailed description of Reiki classes and a Reiki session. Read it through and email me at livingreiki@rogers.com with your questions or comments.  And if you would like to schedule a session with me or to register for a course, just let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.

More about the Reiki I offer:

Initially I learned Reiki 1, 11 and Reiki Master Teacher here in Owen Sound.  I found the more I used it, the more I grew to love what it offered me, my clients and the students I taught.  At that point I taught only Reiki 1 and 11.  I wanted to take my learning to a deeper level and wanted to be sure I knew what I was teaching. An internet search led me to William Lee Rand and reiki.org.  What a great resource this was.

William is the founder of reiki.org, an international organization that includes a group of Reiki teachers who have studied Reiki more intensively for at least 3 years. This is the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT).

I decided to redo the Reiki Master course with William in Michigan.  There were ten of us who met with him for the three day course.  The course served me in many ways and in particular it offered me what I aimed for in bringing integrity and credibility to clients and students.

The following year I attended the Holy Fire Karuna Reiki Master course in Sedona with Laurelle Shanti Gaia and Michael Baird who are both ICRT licenced teachers.  These people and the Holy Fire energy were even more inspiring.  I realized that I wanted to be a member of the ICRT group and this past spring I retook Holy Fire Usui Reiki 1 and 11 in Buffalo with Carolyn Musial, who is another ICRT licenced Reiki teacher.  Having taken all levels with ICRT teachers, I am now a Professional Holy Fire Usui and Karuna Reiki Master with ICRT and I am happy to offer what I have learned and experienced to students and clients here in Owen Sound.  In October I will be attending a  Reiki Drumming course in Sedona with Michael Baird again.  Who knows where that will take me.

Besides teaching Holy Fire Usui Reiki 1 and 11 in Sept/Oct, I am also teaching a Holy Fire Usui Reiki Master course Nov 7-8-9.  If you have taken Reiki 1 and 11 from a qualified teacher in person (not online), even if it was not a Holy Fire Reiki, and if you have been using Reiki 11 for at least 6 months on self and others, you are qualified to take the Holy Fire Usui Reiki master course.  If this interest you, please let me know.

Enjoy September.  It is a beautiful month.

Marie

Moving Right Along

Closer to Retirement:

Time begins to pass more quickly.  Busyness takes over my life at times. Have I just tried to do everything possible to be sure I get it all in while I can?  Perhaps.  I am not sure that it matters why these things suddenly come to our awareness as we age.  It just does and here I am making decisions about where I want to expend my energy and what other things I wish to enjoy as I still have a wonderful life.

Reiki is definitely a keeper.   If you read what I have written on the pages of this site, you will get at least a bit of a sense of why Reiki stays while I am choosing to reduce a number of the other things I have managed to get caught up in over the years.  Enjoyable years and I don’t regret that busyness.  It gave me much enjoyment and fulfillment.  I am grateful to have had such opportunities.

So now, with a focus on Reiki, I offer you classes as well as Reiki Sessions for your wholistic wellbeing.

Usui Holy Fire Reiki Master Classes

Yes I will be teaching the Usui Holy Fire Reiki Master Course in late April 2016.
I am working with a small group of interested people now. If you are interested in possibly taking the Master Level course, please contact me. I would like to discuss the approach I take. Some people are unsure. That is fine. Let’s talk. I will be running a Prep course in January to help with your decision.  Interested? email me at marieknapp@rogers.com or call 519 371 1255.

The Brow Chakra

If I were to have a favourite chakra, this would be it.  And yet I know that none of them work in isolation and this chakra could not be as active without the others also functioning.  Sometimes called the third eye, this chakra, when activated gives us the ability to use both right and left brain.  As a result, our perspective creates a vision of our world that intertwines both the logical and the intuitive.  When I talk about the power of the mind or the power of thought, it is through this chakra.  This is definitely an area I personally find both inspiring and fulfilling.

When we fully activate this chakra, we are able to examine and change our limiting beliefs.  Here we can access our wisdom.  Here we can strengthen our spirit.  Here we learn to aim for our highest good as well as the highest good for all.

While this chakra is connected with the mind, do not confuse it will being an intellectual or analytical thinker who trusts only what is conventional making them narrow thinkers, even though they may not see this in themselves.

You may ask “how do I use this part of me more often?  I aspire to wisdom and balance.”

It requires growing in self awareness while at the same time accepting others, seeing the good in each person.  Seek out people who think as you do and allow yourself to express your own uniqueness in ways that serve you best.

Personally I love spending time with friends who share this perspective.  I feel I am at my best when I have spent some time each day reading some inspirational material, or meditating or doing self Reiki.  I wish I could say I do this daily.  I get sidetracked.  My humanness kicks in and I forget.  But I notice the difference and when I return to this practice, my day flows much better.

From my learning and experience, I sense that we cannot function from this chakra alone.  It is by working with all the chakras that we are at our best.

Are you interested in a retreat?

I have been giving serious thought to offering another retreat.  If this interests you at all, let me know.  Would November be a good month?  Would you prefer an overnight or just two full days?  I am looking forward to hearing your response.

Till next time,

Marie
