Visualizing Yourself as a more senior person

You may recall this message I posted last summer. Serendipitously I happened to come across it recently. The message is an important one and seems to fit well following the last three New Years related blogs I wrote.  You may wish to read them again: Merry Christmas and Happy HolidayLooking Ahead, and Moving into 2019 with an Authentic Way of Being

Read on…….

Birthdays are only a number.  Although this sounds like a light and perhaps frivolous comment, it is actually deeper than you might think. We attach too many expectations to age numbers, sometimes in the form of shoulds, and sometimes in the form of diminishing abilities. Currently I am paying attention to releasing limiting beliefs around getting old.  Let me share a personal story.

Time passes quickly.  Sixteen years ago was 2002.  That seems fairly recent. It is in this millennium, post 9/11, and post retirement for me.  That thought is  relatively neutral until I move those 16 years into the future and realized how old I will be then.  Those numbers will have accumulated rather briskly. Yikes!

At first I was dragged down by this thought, coupled by continuing notices of the serious illnesses and/or deaths of friends, acquaintances, former classmates and relatives who are my age and even younger.  Dwelling on this thought was a downer.  I began thinking of myself losing ground, becoming weaker, less involved.  UGH! It was not a good feeling and I noticed that it was affecting my daily life in the present.  I noticed that I already was beginning to cut back on things I loved doing.

I find that Reiki self practice often guides me to higher ground. While some of the above helps me feel compassion toward those experiencing ill health, compassion is not meant to drag me down too.  Reflecting on this, I began to notice those things that gave me insights into what I needed to do.  Perhaps synchronistically I happened to see a Facebook ad from Mind Movies.  Perhaps you have seen those.  Very useful perspective and exercises.  I happened to pass through some of the previous workshops I have led on intentions, visualizations, and the effects of our thinking. I realized that I had a limiting belief about getting older that I did not need to hang on to.

As a Reiki practitioner and teacher I feel it is most important to do my own self reiki and self healing.  The more I can heal old stuff within my thought patterns and past life experiences, the better I can work with others and provide the right energy and capability to offer what they may need at that moment for their highest good. Through self care, I see old patterns that can be released. For my own personal and spiritual growth, I see a practitioner who uses Reiki and other methods to help me release them.  We work well together because I trust her ability.  I never expect a magic fix.  It always requires inner work on my part and her capabilities allow me to be more aware of the required work.  I hope I provide that for the people I see.  That is  my intention.

After I went to see my energy practitioner, I also listened to some of the audio and videos on Mind Movies and it became very clear to me what I needed to do.

Besides releasing the limiting beliefs, my inner work was to create a visualization of me as an older woman, still participating in the growth of others, still actively involved and healthy as I engage in life.  I am currently working on that image of my true self, not giving it an age number, but seeing me in the image as an older woman.  I look vibrant, caring, energetic, bright, and mentoring others, facilitating, engaging and enjoying life.  My family are also enjoying my vibrancy as an older woman and we are doing fun things together.  This is uplifting.  This image contributes significantly to the vibrancy I feel today. I am making different life choices. I welcome Birthdays. I am grateful for them.

I invite you to pay attention to how you see yourself today and in the future as you get older.  If you have learned Reiki, it can be very helpful in asking for guidance and releasing the limiting beliefs.  You may very well be able to do this without extra help but if you need me, just contact me.  We can set up an appointment.

By the way, I find this concept is also useful for people who have  been dealing with some serious “stuff” from their past and want to have a sense of “where from here”.  When a lot of time has been spent reviewing the past and connecting it to “why today”, it can sometimes lead you to a stuck place.  You may need a way to move forward from here.  This may be helpful for you.

I would love to hear your comments about this blog.  Have you had similar experiences you can share either privately or on the blog?

Moving into 2019 with an Authentic Way of Being

Once again we approach another year.  2019.  Some see New Years Resolutions as a list of things you hope to accomplish; however many goals on the list are the same ones you had last year. So now what? Should you bother?

Do do do.  What do we wish to do or accomplish?  What is really important?  Another “To Do List” is not what you need when you already have a list of tasks that you never seem to get around to.  Each day ends by simply writing several of the things that were to be accomplished today onto the new list for tomorrow. It is a busy world.

Is it possible to approach this traditionally significant date in a more effective manner? Over the years I have been using the term intentions instead of resolutions.  I think of an intention as something that resides deeper in my heart.  Sometimes I am not even fully aware of my intentions. But my intentions do govern my actions.  Look at that picture of the tree again. The intention of the tree overcame the challenges of the location for its growth.  It is a strong tree.

When it is the right time, sit quietly and let your meaningful intentions for being come to the surface.  What do I mean?  What is important right now in your life at this time? Really important.  For example do you want more peace of mind, or more authentic connections to the people you love most.  Perhaps you want to have a way to deal with  the news you really wish was not happening.  How do you really want to be as you move forward in this new year?  Let this come from your true authentic self.

This is entirely different from what you want to do.  First you want to know how you want to be in relation to the life ahead of you.  Just let it come to you.  Ask for guidance. It could relate to your relationship or your family or your work or your community or your spirituality or your health and aging or ……

I suggest you read the two previous blog articles I wrote: Looking Ahead, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday   Scroll down on the Blog articles page to see previous articles.

Notice how there tends to be a somewhat spiritual element to what is meaningful to you.  It feels like you are connecting to life purpose.  Be still. Let it become more and more conscious for you.  This will take some time.  Breathe deep. Let it unfold. Journal about it. There is not a dead line. January 1st can come and go and it doesn’t matter. Take time to have a real sense of what is your intention and how you want to be.  Being will be  the foundation for  what you will do  to live it out fully.

As you become aware of your deeper intentions, then start to develop the means. What do you need to do to be able to be  how you want to be?

What an inspiring feeling it is to be more and more in touch with who you are!  Let your inner bright light shine!

A side note: living life meaningfully has been important for me for many years.  My doctoral dissertation was a qualitative study on how people make changes in their lives related to what is meaningful to them.  I have continued that personal study through reading, writing articles, creating newsletters, working with Lance Secretan, and of course studying, sharing and teaching Reiki.  From when I began to teach nursing until forever, it has been part of what I bring to my work and my life.  I would be honoured to read anything you would like to share with me regarding your personal story of finding meaning. Send it to me privately at marieknapp@rogers.com

Happy New Year

Hay House Heal Summit: Dr Joe Dispensa

Today the summit began and having read his books, I decided to listen to Dr Joe Dispensa.  It was well worth the hour and a half. It was not difficult to stay focussed on what he was saying.

For me the most reaffirming piece was how we can make transformative changes in our lives by meditating.  I kept thinking about my work with Reiki and the depth of connection one is able to experience through a regular Reiki self healing practice.   I love how he talks gently but firmly about not reliving the past in our minds but to create the future image and become emotionally connected to it. I will be adding this to my daily self care practice.

But I could not possibly tell you all the major important points he made.  There is still time for you to listen for yourself.  It is free.  I plan to reread his books too.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Reiki: Ripples to Waves

When we take a step to help make the world a better place, we make ripples. The ripples extend from you to those you touch personally and continue to extend outward from those people to others.  Suppose we were to take a bigger step, be a bit more vulnerable, send out more and bigger ripples, can’t you see that soon the ripples have built on each other and become a wave?

Join me in looking at this further. Reiki energy responds to your requests with what is for the highest good of all concerned. Reiki energy comes from the highest source, from the creator, from the highest good. It does no harm.  You know that a Reiki session takes you to a place of deep relaxation that allows your body mind and spirit to heal at just the right pace. It feeds our soul and touches our heart.

As the energy moves through you, Reiki helps you release blocks. Blocks are places where you hold energy for a variety of reasons. Many say that it is blocks in the emotional field that lead to physical symptoms. This makes sense knowing that stress can affect your life in many ways including physical illness.  Blocks can also hold you back in your growth path.

Yes, you can also bring Reiki into your life to help you move forward in your personal growth and in your life goals. If you do what you have always done, you will get what you always got. But taking that big leap is needed to move you forward, to transform your thoughts and behaviours. It requires courage, inner strength, patience and perseverance. It isn’t a smooth ride. It’s like taking the road less travelled and having to work your way through wild raspberries and some poison ivy. You reach a place of beauty and awe but the path has its challenges. Reiki can also give you what you need to handle the challenges.

If you have already taken Reiki level 1 or more, you can use reiki daily, ask for guidance and send Reiki energy to your intentions.  Although this is not difficult, sometimes it is easier with someone along side reminding you and encouraging you.

The workshop I am designing is almost ready to post so keep watching.  The input I have received from some of my clients and Reiki friends has been very useful in helping me create a package that will serve you well.

Save the date.  Tuesday March 21st 1:00 till 4:00pm.  You can be part of the beta test group, and be able take the course at a reduced cost.  More coming soon.

You have gifts that you know are valuable.  You have taken them so far but now you can consider taking that jump to a level that will help you build more confidence, be more successful and influence more people with love, compassion, encouragement, and beauty to help make this world a better, more beautiful, loving and caring place.

till next time,

Marie

Strengthen Your 2017 Intentions with Reiki

IMG_0869At this time of year we often feel prompted to review the past in an effort to consider a direction for the future.  Some call it “making resolutions”.  I prefer to use words like direction and intention because it moves me to a place within where I consider how I want to be over the next year.  I think a resolution is often filled with “shoulds” —  something that comes from without in an effort to please or impress others … or the mirror image of myself.  Over the last ten or more years I have given a lot of attention to intentions in workshops, retreats and personal coaching.

Personally there are some very serious things to consider as I examine the direction for 2017.

  1. Unless you are uniquely blessed with a strange genetic aberration, you are likely getting older. Me too.  As we all get older, I find that health becomes a bigger factor in one’s life.  I hear people say things like “I want to be able to enjoy and play with my grandchildren” or “I want to have quality of life as I age.”  Health seems to be high on the list of directions for the coming year.
  2. At the same time, we realize our mortality and this is another factor that kicks in sometime after age 50.  It nudges one to notice the decreasing number of years left and the importance of leaving a legacy.  Depending on how close retirement is, a person begins to think about ‘what next?’. Some people talk about freedom after retirement.  “Freedom to do what?” I have been retired for several years but still look at what is next, how do I want to be in the year ahead?
  3. The last year has challenged us with some surprise and very concerning situations worldwide.  Syria, Brexit, US elections, climate change, the death of several musicians and performers, family conflicts, financial worries, poverty, the murder of so many aboriginal women, and more.  Our world is in need of positive influences from someone somewhere …  from people living ordinary lives just caring and giving attention to what is needed.  Sometimes we need courage to speak up for what we stand for.  One person cannot do everything but when each of us considers one or two things we can do and ways we can be in a loving, courageous and caring way in situations in our lives, we become part of the movement to make the world a better place.  So how can we be different in the year ahead in an effort to help move us all to a better world?

Setting your intentions is much like making affirmations.  While some like to think of them as goals, I like to give them more power by wording them more like affirmations.

Begin each intention with “I am…”.  Here are a few examples:

Yes I want to be healthy so I might say “I am making healthy choices in eating and exercising”  Or  “I am healthy and vibrant”

What do I want to leave behind for others? “I am practicing Reiki on myself and others every week.” ” I am continuing to heal myself in order to be better able to help heal others.” ” I am seeking out more learning opportunities for Reiki.”

“I am inwardly strong and courageously speaking my truth honestly and lovingly.”

Your intentions may be very different from mine.  Some people are looking for peace of mind, a sense of fulfillment, love.  The list goes on.

Reiki can play a role throughout the process.  Ask for guidance in determining your intentions.  Write your intentions on a paper and send Reiki to the intention.   Read you intention every day and send Reiki energy to your intention asking for assistance in bringing it to fruition. Express gratitude knowing that what you ask for is for the highest good of all concerned.  Then trust, and let go of the outcomes.

Want to share some of your intentions with me?  I would be happy to read them and send you a response if you wish.   I am sure they will be heartfelt and honest.  I wish you well.

I can also see you for individual coaching with Reiki sessions to help you move forward with your intentions and help you get unstuck. email me at livingreiki@rogers.com

You may be interested in working more on these concepts in an Intentions with Reiki workshop I am creating.   Please email me if this interests you.  livingreiki@rogers.com

Happy New Year,

I wish everyone everywhere a year ahead filled with love, peace and much joy.

Till next time,

Marie

Give Attention to What You Want To See More Of

Please turn your tablet sideways for better viewing

necklaceLet’s make a change.  Let’s be the change we want to create. Whenever we are tempted to share a Facebook message that gives attention to negative aspects of a person, a presidential candidate, a leader, a political party, a neighbour or family member,  let’s stop and give attention to what we would prefer to see.  Notice places, people, or situations, that demonstrate what we would love to see more of  and give it attention. Holy Fire/Usui Reiki Master Class, Nov 7-8-9

RMAproMemberLogo-2Why become a Reiki Master?

Please turn your tablet sideways for the best view

Perhaps you have been working with Reiki for a while and are looking for a deeper connection with the energy.  Or perhaps you feel ready o learn more advanced techniques to help your clients and yourself move closer to your life purpose.  Maybe you love teaching and having practiced Reiki for a while you want to begin sharing it with others.

My Reiki journey:

The first Reiki Master course I took led me to teaching several Reiki 1 and 11 courses.  It  put me in touch with several people who were caring, spiritual, reflective people who were open to Reiki energy.  I found it fulfilling to be able to guide them in a process that connected them more deeply to their personal  connection to the higher power, to what they know to be the healing power of God.

After several classes, I was asked if I would teach a Reiki Master class.  I searched within and didn’t feel quite ready.  What did I need?  What learning still was necessary for me to trust myself with this process?  Then I came across the reiki.org website, with its many resources, as well as its founder, author of most of the books and articles available on the site, and leader of the Licensed Professional Reiki Masters, William Lee Rand.  While the cost of taking a Reiki Master course was high, I knew the personal and spiritual benefits would be worth it. I went to Michigan and took the course.

And now:

I love teaching Reiki even more now and look forward to teaching a Reiki Master Course again in November.   If this is a path you feel called to take, I would be glad to talk with you on the phone, meet you for tea, and/or connect in another way to discuss your journey and how I may be of help.  If the November class seems a little too close, I will be teaching it again in 2017sometime.  May I help you prepare in whatever way suits you best?

The fee I ask for the course is $850 CAD for a three day intensive program.  It includes the manual.  I am willing to discuss divided payments spread over several months to make it more affordable for you. We can talk about it without your having to commit.  Just start reflecting on possibilities.

I can best be reached by email to start.  livingreiki@rogers.com is the best email for this.  Let’s just start talking about it a bit.  Maybe you would like to schedule a Reiki session with me to help you decide.

In  any case, just be with it.  Let the Reiki energy flow through you and ask for guidance.

Namasre,

Marie

Reiki: a means for self development

Reiki for wholeness and growth

Having taught several Reiki classes, I have noticed that people begin by promoting their own wholeness and growth. Their personal care and growth in wisdom and becoming more conscious is important.  Starting a Reiki practice may or may not be a later step.

Once a person learns Reiki, its uses are unlimited. That is why I chose to call my web site ‘Living Reiki’. You see it can become a part of your living day-to-day, helping you feel calm, grounded, more connected to your sense of higher power, more safe and ready to face life’s challenges.  It helps raise your own vibrational level which then helps raise the vibrational level of the planet.

I love teaching Reiki. I thoroughly enjoy seeing people feel the energy come through them. The more they practice, the more open they become to the energy and its benefits.  Given the benefits, why not click on this link to read a more detailed description of Reiki classes and a Reiki session. Read it through and email me at livingreiki@rogers.com with your questions or comments.  And if you would like to schedule a session with me or to register for a course, just let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.

More about the Reiki I offer:

Initially I learned Reiki 1, 11 and Reiki Master Teacher here in Owen Sound.  I found the more I used it, the more I grew to love what it offered me, my clients and the students I taught.  At that point I taught only Reiki 1 and 11.  I wanted to take my learning to a deeper level and wanted to be sure I knew what I was teaching. An internet search led me to William Lee Rand and reiki.org.  What a great resource this was.

William is the founder of reiki.org, an international organization that includes a group of Reiki teachers who have studied Reiki more intensively for at least 3 years. This is the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT).

I decided to redo the Reiki Master course with William in Michigan.  There were ten of us who met with him for the three day course.  The course served me in many ways and in particular it offered me what I aimed for in bringing integrity and credibility to clients and students.

The following year I attended the Holy Fire Karuna Reiki Master course in Sedona with Laurelle Shanti Gaia and Michael Baird who are both ICRT licenced teachers.  These people and the Holy Fire energy were even more inspiring.  I realized that I wanted to be a member of the ICRT group and this past spring I retook Holy Fire Usui Reiki 1 and 11 in Buffalo with Carolyn Musial, who is another ICRT licenced Reiki teacher.  Having taken all levels with ICRT teachers, I am now a Professional Holy Fire Usui and Karuna Reiki Master with ICRT and I am happy to offer what I have learned and experienced to students and clients here in Owen Sound.  In October I will be attending a  Reiki Drumming course in Sedona with Michael Baird again.  Who knows where that will take me.

Besides teaching Holy Fire Usui Reiki 1 and 11 in Sept/Oct, I am also teaching a Holy Fire Usui Reiki Master course Nov 7-8-9.  If you have taken Reiki 1 and 11 from a qualified teacher in person (not online), even if it was not a Holy Fire Reiki, and if you have been using Reiki 11 for at least 6 months on self and others, you are qualified to take the Holy Fire Usui Reiki master course.  If this interest you, please let me know.

Enjoy September.  It is a beautiful month.

Going Back 50 years

It has been a rainy day today.  Rainy days have some kind of quietness that moves me inward.  I love reflective moments that deepen my awareness of something even if I struggle with the words to express it all.

I passed an incredibly wonderful weekend with my classmates of 50 years ago.  Can you believe that it was fifty years ago that 89 young single women (key words there because in those days you could not be married and you could not be male in most nursing programs) walked the stage of Convocation Hall in Toronto as graduates of St Michael’s School of Nursing.  It seems impossible.  We come together as though time had not passed.  In fact it is an example of timelessness.  An example of how time is something we only make up to explain change but in reality it does not exist because we simply reconnected as though nothing had changed.

Some of us shared how the bond created back then when as young innocent young women we came together and experienced life and death in ways that we had not realized could happen before.  It was a growing up time and definitely a time of spiritual awakening that affected all of us forever.

We realized that we had become different.  Not just more grown up.  Not just more knowledgeable.  But unique in our commitment to caring and to personal growth.

Some married soon after graduation and some did not.  Some stayed close by and others moved great distances, exploring a world far greater than the city where we studied.  And this past weekend, about 54 of us gathered together again, loving each other, caring about what struggles we had all experienced and marveling at how we had come through them and continue on.  I feel so blessed.

I was a shy little girl way back in my early childhood.  The teachers always had to tell me to speak up and when we had to do our speeches I was terrible. Scared silly.  It took me a while to develop confidence.  The nursing program helped me open up.  I learned more about myself in the process.  Some people said that I was “university material” and should have gone there but for me, I needed that time at St Mikes in order to be stronger within.  I was much more able to handle University when I went there after working a year on Surgery at St Mikes.  Sometimes everything falls into place over time if you just let it.  It falls into place just as it should.

If that little shy girl from my elementary school days me the older adult that is me now, I wonder what she would have thought.  Would little Marie recognize the me that is here now?  Interesting questions.  Would the child and the older adult enjoy each others company?  I think they would.

Life is good.  I enjoy contemplating life.  I suppose that is why I so love offering retreats such as Self care — Soul Care.  It is all connected.  It is who I am.

I still have two spots left in the retreat.  Are you interested?  It will be an inspiring weekend.  You will get to spend some time with some very neat people.  Women who are probably a bit like you.  Give it some thought.  Give me a call and we can talk about it if you like.  You are unique.  Join us to share your uniqueness and strengthen who you are as you work to inspire others.  Nervous about coming alone?  Find a friend or relative to come with you.  Learn more about it here

Namaste,

Till next time

Marie

Sparking Your Enthusiasm

It’s Friday August 21st — the start of Summerfolk weekend here in Owen Sound.  I am invigorated within, harbouring a sense of impending purposeful fall activity that sparks my enthusiasm and brightens my soul.  Those words feel good to me and I want to share them with you.  I feel inspired and want to share that with others.

The world in my small city is bursting with community spirit.  Perhaps it is the 40th celebration of Summerfolk, you might think.  But I know it is more than that. There is a bigger story emerging here.  Not even two weeks ago, 9 fires were lit by arsonists for no apparent reason (so far known) displacing 41 people from their homes, most losing everything they owned.  These were not people with a lot of money and several had no insurance coverage.  This was not in the higher end neighbourhoods.  “Why?” everyone asks. The affected people and in fact the entire city and surroundings were left in shock, fear and confusion.  There were many heroes.  Everyone got out without injury and ten had minor smoke inhalation problems which were treated.  The culprits were seen through the video surveillance of one of the properties where they ineffectively lit a bush on fire.  They were arrested within three days.

But our community did not stop with the arrest of the three alleged arsonists.   The news of their bail hearings is almost overwhelmed by the news of continuing fundraisers and donors. I love how the positive is almost overriding the negative. The United Way has already received over $200,000 to help the fire victims reestablish homes, belongings and life following the fire.  As soon as the day following the fires, the local Canadian Mental Health Association provided the service of reestablishing each person’s ID papers.  The fire victims were forced to run from their homes with wearing only pajamas, often barefoot with no time to grab even a purse or wallet but they were safe.

The why question is still not answered. I invite you to go to this link and read what Kelly Babcock has written.  The affected people are already in temporary quarters and out of motels.  They will be in their own rented apartment in early fall. I feel proud to be part of this community. We are all learning how good it feels to be able to help others. I have a feeling that this spirit will be present at Summerfolk too.  It just will.

Summerfolk is likely to be rain-less this year.  Hooray!! Though weather predictions are increasingly imperfect with climate change, this one looks very promising.  Cool but no rain.  It will be good.

Summer busyness increases at this time.  The week before Labour Day long weekend marks “Salmon Spectacular”.  Another group of people will arrive with their boats to fill the otherwise almost empty Bay.  The night view will show hundreds of lights out on the water as dedicated fisher-people attempt to catch the prize fish.  Meanwhile on the shore a massive tent will house nightly rockin’ entertainment.

All this nudges me to start bringing my fall programs to fruition — some for my learning, and some for my sharing.  I love it.  My heart sings with this kind of activity, like it is what I am hear for — to learn and to share and sometimes they seem to occur simultaneously.  I feel inspired and I love opportunities to guide the inspiration of others.

For my own learning I will refresh my knowledge and skills related to Leadership development as I create a leadership mentoring program combining the work of Lance Secretan (www.secretan.com) and Reiki.  I will retake Lance’s coaching course through teleseminar and I will look for another Reiki class.  I have already begun offering this program on an individual basis.  I will continue to develop it using Lance’s work as well as my own research in graduate school as the foundation I will interlace it with Reiki to help people release old patterns and be open to finding their sense of self and purpose. Watch how that emerges.

The Spring retreat was very successful and so I am offering a similar retreat in October.  Retreats are one of my favourite way to guide people to their place of inner wisdom and their connection with Spirit.  I love being part of the growth and transformative process that so often occurs in retreat participants.  The participants are always just the right mix.  Yes I facilitate the process but there is also learning from each other and a wonderful supportive and safe environment to explore thoughts, dreams, patterns, and change.

In addition to the retreat, I also like to offer half day workshops:  Intentions for the New Year and Staying On Track.   For some the workshops are nudges to get back on track.  For others it is an opportunity to get at taste of my approach and perhaps at a later date becoem more involved in the growth opportunities I offer.  I am offering two different Friday morning workshops this Fall.  I will decide on a location soon.

Reiki has been a very positive element in helping me move past old patterns and blocks so I continue to offer Reiki classes.  Taking the first two levels of Reiki is an excellent opportunity to learn some valuable self care strategies.  There are underlying principles that can be applied in many situations and help you through conflict situations.  This year I am planning to also offer the Advanced Reiki Techniques and Holy Fire Usui Reiki Master course as long as I have at least two interested people.  I may also offer the Holy Fire Karuna Reiki Master class if there is interest.  I incorporate Reiki in all individual sessions I offer, in the workshops in a smaller way, in the retreat and in the mentoring programs.  You do not have to have taken Reiki classes to attend these.

I look forward to attending Nia classes again starting in September with Wendy Roman.  I took part in one of the days of Wendy’s Nia Retreat this past week.  Wendy is a beautiful soul in all that she does.  I invite you to check out Wendy’s web site and all that she offers.  I feel so fortunate to have such gems here in our area.

This blog has covered a lot of territory.  Take time and I hope you will refer to it again.

Till next time,

Marie
